World’s Biggest Analog

Research Design Competition

THE GOAL:

To conduct scientific research, identifying NASA research gaps, industry or academic partner research, and develop communication protocols between the different habitats to carry out collaborative research.

We are proposing the Word’s Biggest Analog (WBA) by conducting a mission simultaneously across multiple analog habitats. The habitats will be networked and research will be collaborative across the habitats. We are replicating an off Earth settlement. The main goal of which is to conduct rigorous scientific research and experiments. If you would like to be part of this historical project and have research that you wish to be considered for WBA, please submit your research proposal below.

ROUND 1 Competition Rules:

Think of ROUND 1 as your “initial idea/proposal”. You will have time to refine your research in ROUND 2. We will also be able to provide you with more details/constraints for WBA during ROUND 2.

  • Mission duration - 1 month.

  • Mission date - Sept/Oct 2025.

  • Design a research project/experiment to be carried out during the WBA.

  • Must require participation and collaboration from all participating habitats in WBA.

  • Can enter as an individual or as a team of up to 4 people.

  • Must be own original work or have permission to carry out the research.

    1. Round 1 OPEN

    2. Round 1 Closes April 8th 2023

    3. Round 1 finalists announced at AAC Conference May 4th - 7th

  • Round 2 rules announced July 2023. Round 1 winners will be given the opportunity to refine their research proposal.

Winners Receive:

  • Formal member of the WBA mission team (regardless of location)

  • Mission team swag-bag (e.g. patch, shirt, stickers, etc.)

  • Identified as a member of the team on all published output from the mission

  • Participation in mission research / analysis / publication as applicable
